Students on Campus

Campus Safety

At Algoma University, we take safety and security very seriously. While we pride ourselves on our friendly and intimate campus, where people smile, say hello, and know your name, we know that there is always room for improvement when it comes to providing a safe and secure environment for our students. We are dedicated to protecting the rights of everyone on campus while providing a professional, respectful, and safe campus environment.

We have 24-hour video surveillance, campus security, Residence Advisors, and secure-access residences. The Walk Safe Program provides a walking buddy escort for students, staff, and faculty during the evening hours from Monday through Thursday. We run education and awareness programs, and have policies and procedures in place to address issues when they arise.

As hard as our staff work to create our secure environment, campus safety is everyone’s responsibility. Being diligent, self-aware, and speaking out on behalf of your fellow students helps everyone to feel safe and secure on campus.

These pages are intended to outline some of the campus safety policies, procedures and resources that are available to students, staff, and faculty. There are illustrations that should help people to understand their rights and repsonsibilities, and what they should do in the event of a variety of potential campus emergencies:
