Algoma University faculty, staff, and students are busy making campus spooky for the seventh annual Algoma U Community Trick or Treat Night for the United Way on Wednesday, October 30 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
The annual event has grown in popularity and has seen an increase in participants over the past five years. Last year over 3,100 people attended the Community Trick or Treat. 45,000 pieces of candy were handed out and $6,108 was raised for the United Way.
“This is a wonderful community event for our families to enjoy Hallowe’en in a safe and fun setting while at the same time supporting the United Way. It is our absolute pleasure to welcome our community’s youngest trick or treaters to the University campus for a spooktacular evening. Over 50 volunteers from our University community have organized an evening that is sure to be enjoyable for everyone,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina. When asked about her costume, she chuckled and said, “You will have to come to the President’s Office on the 30th to see, it’s top-secret for now!”
Families are encouraged to dress in costume and trick or treat around the University’s spooktacular campus, where they will have the opportunity to fill their bags with goodies and treats. This year, over 20 stations will be decorated around campus. Trick or treaters will visit the Woodshop of Horrors, Candyland, a Witch’s Den, and more.
The first-ever Community Trick or Treat was held in 2012 as part of the University’s United Way campaign.
This event is open only to children 12 and under who are accompanied by an adult. Participants are encouraged to make a donation, with proceeds going to the University’s United Way campaign. After trick or treating, participants are invited to enjoy refreshments in The Speakeasy. For only $2.00, participants can enjoy a hot dog or pizza by the slice and a drink.
