Growth Mindset Presentation coming to Sault Ste. Marie

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON: Friday, April 13, 2018): The Algoma District School Board, in collaboration with Algoma University is pleased to announce that Chris Dooley will be coming to Sault Ste. Marie, April 17-19 to share his message with students and parents on growth mindset. On April 18th at 6:30pm, the Sault Ste. Marie community is invited to hear Dooley speak and share his knowledge and experience on the University’s campus in the Great West Life Amphitheatre. His presentation is called “‘Can’t Miss’ Growth Mindset”.

For over 30 years Dooley has been a basketball coach. He has coached at all levels from high school to university through to provincial and national championship teams and he has received numerous awards for his work. One of Dooley’s connections throughout his coaching career was with Bill Pangos, father to Canadian basketball star point guard, Kevin Pangos. Together they coached a provincial team in the 1980s and have been colleagues and friends ever since. Dooley later wrote a book titled Can’t Miss-The Kevin Pangos Story.

Dooley’s free evening presentation “Can’t Miss” is based on material from the book and on what he has learned about attitude and work ethic in helping develop not just world-class athletes, but motivated individuals of any age. This one hour presentation has been used across the country to inspire and motivate audiences from elementary school to university classes, from Rotary Clubs to leadership conferences. It uses the path to professional sports success of Kevin Pangos as a guide to allow the audience to embrace the need of values: that the growth process will lead to the desired outcome.

Reviews:
“Through the lens of achievement, tenacity and personal values, Chris helps the audience reflect on their own capacity for growth. He had the group of leaders from all over BC on the edge of their seats and in the palm of his hand. He does not present, he teaches.”
– Steve Butz, President and CEO, YMCA of Greater Vancouver

“Don’t be fooled by Chris Dooley’s self-effacing “I’m just a basketball coach” approach to his presentation. He is – in fact – a talented author and skilled presenter who knows how to reach all levels of his audiences with his humour and very important messages. His lessons on goal setting and passion are relevant to academic and business audiences alike. Chris Dooley truly delivers a “Can’t Miss” presentation.”
– Bob Hudson, Author, HappyReading.ca

“If you are interested in optimizing yourself as an athlete by pursuing a ‘Growth Mindset’ vs. a ‘fixed mindset’ the Can’t Miss philosophy is for you. Chris’ presentation will take you to a whole new level of understanding and will positively impact your life.”
– Bill Pangos, retired coach, York Lions Women’s Basketball, Director of Pangos Hoops Academy

“Chris brought a tremendous amount of energy and passion to our school for his ‘Can’t Miss’ presentation. Our students were exposed to many valuable lessons that they can relate to and use in their own lives! Thank-you Chris!”
– Kevin Bellamy, teacher and Coach, Perth HS, Perth, Ontario
