Get Ready to Golf ‘Fore’ Education on June 4th

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON: May 23, 2018): Calling all golfers. It’s time to dust off  your clubs, shine them up, and head out to the fairway! The 17th Annual Algoma U Classic Golf Tournament, sponsored by Purvis Marine Ltd., will take place on Monday, June 4th at Crimson Ridge Golf Course.

The Algoma U Classic Golf Tournament is a community event that helps to raise funds to support the University’s Scholarship and Bursary Program. Since its inception, the tournament has raised over $400,000 and has helped make the dream of a university education a reality for many students.

“The ongoing support of the residents and business community of Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region are critical to the success of Algoma University and the students we serve. Every year, the Algoma U Classic Golf Tournament raises a significant amount of money for the Scholarships and Bursaries program,” said President and Vice-Chancellor, Asima Vezina. “Many students tell us that they would not be able to access a university education without the bursaries and scholarships provided. Your donations really have an impact on the lives of others.”

The funds raised from the tournament provide Awards of Excellence to first year students and helps attract local, provincial, national, and international talent to the University and community.

Golfers will enjoy 18 holes of golf at Crimson Ridge Golf Course, a complimentary box lunch, use of a drive cart, on-course contests, a sit-down dinner, prizes, and an awards presentation.

Tee-off time is 1:00 pm with a shotgun start. The tournament is a four-person scramble format, with entries in the men’s, women’s, and mixed categories. Single entries are also accepted and will be matched with other single entries to form a team.

Registration is $150.00 per golfer, or $600.00 per team.
