Funding Secured for People’s Garden Greenhouse

Jordan Lipscombe, a third year Geography student at Algoma University, has just been awarded a grant $700 from the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada Roots & Shoots Youth Division A.P.E. (Animals, People and the Environment). This funding program is geared towards youth driven projects. The grant is to go towards building a greenhouse affiliated with the People’s Garden which is a community garden based on the Sault Ste. Marie campus of Algoma University. The purpose of the greenhouse is to extend the Northern Ontario growing season and to provide experiential learning opportunities for students. The Jane Goodall Institute requires that the funds are used by June 1, 2019. A meeting will be organized shortly with students and other interested community members to plan the next steps of this exciting new project.
