Algoma University’s Collison Captures Bronze at National Championships

Five Thunderbirds place in Top Eight

(SAULT STE MARIE, ON- February 23, 2020): This weekend, five members of the Algoma University Thunderbirds Wrestling team took to the mat against Canada’s top University wrestlers at the 2020 USports National Wrestling Championships hosted by Brock University in St. Catharines.

The Thunderbirds came out hard, and Brody Collison (54 KG) took home the Bronze medal, a great victory to complement his top finish at the OUA Provincial Championships earlier this month.

“The whole weekend was awesome,” shared Collison.  “The team came in with high hopes and I personally had a goal I wanted to achieve by medaling at the tournament. I was happy with my performance on day one and even more happy with my day two results. Achieving a bronze means a lot to me because it shows all the hard work I’ve put in this season but it also shows that I have room for improvement. On to bigger and better things next season!”

All five Algoma wrestlers competed against the best in the country, all finishing in the top eight within their respective weight classes. Bryce Davis (68 KG) and Stephen Kreyenbuhl (120 KG) both placed 6th, Emily Duchesne (51 KG) placed 7th and David Serra placed 8th.

“Brody earning Bronze on the national stage this weekend is a great reward for all of the hard work he has put in and we congratulate him on his achievement,” shared Director of Student Experience DAave Trudelle. “The whole Algoma University Community is proud of our wrestlers and their accomplishments at the OUA’s and USports Championships.”
