(BRAMPTON, ON- April 17, 2019) –  The ongoing development of post-secondary education options available in the heart of downtown Brampton took another significant step forward today thanks to an expanded partnership between the City of Brampton and Algoma University.  At this morning’s Committee of Council meeting, Brampton City Council unanimously supported the request to approve $575, 000 in grant funding to facilitate the planned expansion of the Algoma University School of Business and Economics at its current 24 Queen Street East location. Final approval will be considered at the regular Council meeting on Wednesday, April 24.

The funding will immediately support expansion plans that will enable Algoma University’s enrolment capacity to grow to 500 students and enhance the overall student experience through new classroom construction, all while increasing the visual presence of the Algoma University School of Business and Economics within Garden Square through façade improvements.

Phase I construction is expected to be completed in Summer, 2019.  

Expansion of the Algoma University School of Business and Economics has been identified by both the Algoma University Board of Governors and the Academic Senate as a key strategic priority as the institution strives to grow overall enrolment across all campus locations to 3000 students by 2023-24.
