2018 Algoma U John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner to Honour Hollingsworth Family

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – October 12, 2018): The 2018 Algoma University John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner will take place on the evening of Wednesday, October 17th at The Water Tower Inn. This year’s dinner will honour the Hollingsworth family.

For over 100 years, three generations of Hollingsworths have served Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma district in business, community involvement, and philanthropy. The family’s commitment to fair business and community involvement continues to live on through their tireless efforts and generosity. Their legacy began with Fremlin E. Hollingsworth, who purchased a small lumber company at the corner of North and London Streets, which later became known as Soo Mill & Lumber Co.

“Algoma University is pleased to honour the Hollingsworth family for all of their accomplishments, both personally and professionally. The Hollingsworths have built a successful business that continues to flourish 100 years later, and have championed community involvement by being actively involved in various philanthropic efforts,” said Donna Hilsinger, Chair of the John R. Rhodes Dinner Committee.

The John R. Rhodes Scholarship was established in 1979 thanks to generous contributions from friends and family of the late John R. Rhodes. The prestigious scholarship, valued at $3,000, is offered to a high school graduate who embodies the integrity, leadership, and commitment to community service demonstrated by Rhodes throughout his life as a broadcaster, community member, and politician. The scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years, providing the recipient maintains a minimum average of 80 percent each academic year.
