Student Health Services

Providing on-campus health services is an important part of Algoma University’s commitment to students’ wellbeing as well as their academic success.

Should you feel that you need additional support (including a referral for online counselling), please contact healthservices@algomau.ca and our team will be available. Counselling services are still available via Zoom video. Watch for supportive coping and strategies videos to care packages in the coming days and weeks.

WELLNESS SERVICES

Academic stress is normal, but you may feel you need to speak with a professional to help support your wellbeing.

Taking your first step towards reaching your wellness goals shows strength and bravery. However, it can sometimes feel overwhelming! You might ask, “Where do I begin?”

STEP 1

We have created two avenues for you to begin your wellness journey. Choose option A or B below:

a) Through your Academic Success Advisor

Your Academic Success Advisor is here to help you with your first steps toward wellness. Please email healthservices@algomau.ca to make an appointment with your advisor.

b) Through our Drop-In Hours (SSM Campus)

We also have drop in hours every Friday from 3:00pm – 5:00pm with a registered Social Worker in NW307A. All students are welcome!

STEP 2

A member of the Wellness Team will reach out to you and schedule an appointment to create a Wellness Model that works for you.

What is a Wellness Model?
The multidisciplinary Wellness Team at Algoma University provides a selection of Wellness Models that are thoughtfully designed with an individual’s need, comfort level, accessibility, and safety in mind. From frequency of care to model of care, we will discuss what services might be most beneficial for you, based on your presenting Wellness needs.

MEDICAL SERVICES
Sault Ste. Marie On-Campus Medical Clinic

Caring for our students is the number one reason we are here on campus.

Student Health Services is an appointment based medical clinic for all registered part-time and full-time students at Algoma University. Dr. White and her team are on campus once per week to offer a wide range of health assessments and treatments.

Please note that the on-campus clinic is not indented for emergencies. Please visit the Emergency Room at the Sault Area Hospital or call 911 if you are experiencing an emergency health situation.

How to schedule an appointment

The doctor is on campus once per week. Students are encouraged to arrange scheduled appointments as drop-ins may not be accommodated at all times. The email address is for booking appointments only. Clinical questions will not be answered via email. Email: doctor@algomau.ca

What to bring with you to your appointment

All students must bring their health card and/or insurance information to each appointment. Students must also bring all of their medications to each appointment – even renewals – to ensure that the physician knows exactly what you are taking and how often.

Where to go for your appointment

The Student Health Services department is located in SH 216. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
