Boasting one of the highest pass rates on the chartered accountancy exam, Algoma University’s 4-year Bachelor of Business Administration program with a Minor in Accounting continuously graduates students who are highly employable in their field of study.
With a 95 per cent pass rate on their first try, and 100 per cent on their second try at writing the legacy Chartered Accountant three-day Uniform Evaluation (UFE), and now the new Chartered Professional Accountant’s Common Final Exam (CFE) it is no surprise to see today’s competitive work world filled with professionally-designated Algoma U accountants.
Our program is the perfect fit for students who have an aptitude for numbers, organizing, and analytical problem-solving skills. Students will gain a strong understanding of managerial accounting, income taxation, finance, auditing, and analysis of general and management practices. Our program provides students with a pathway into an array of accounting career opportunities, including the opportunity to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation after graduation. Our accounting program also helps prepare students to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and our courses are recognized by the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada (AFOA), which can prepare students to become Certified Aboriginal Financial Managers (CAFM certification).* A degree in accounting, complemented with a professional designation, makes our students of increased value to employers, and enhances their employment prospects after graduation.
As already stated, our program boasts high success rates on the UFE and CFE, surpassing nationally- and even internationally-acclaimed provincial business programs. We maintain this high success rate by providing students with small class sizes and one-on-one interactions with faculty. Our professors are also professional business people, many of which are Chartered Professional Accountants who have real world hands-on working knowledge of the business environment, and can provide vital feedback and experience into life as an accountant. Plus our professors provide students with valuable study tips in preparation for the CFE.
In addition, Algoma University’s student body is one of the most diverse in Canada. With over 22 per cent of our students coming from outside of Canada, our student body is reflective of today’s global marketplace. By having such a diverse classroom, students are exposed to new and differing ideals and opinions. Thus, our classrooms reflect the real world! Approximately 20 percent of our business administration students come from outside of Canada, compared to less than two percent at other northern universities. Once students have graduated from the program, they will have an understanding of alternative business strategies and how to work with a diverse clientele – both of which are assets to resumes! Plus, Algoma U grads know the benefits of working in a diverse workplace, a key question asked in interviews by employers in today’s competitive workforce.
*Professional designations may require additional coursework and/or testing after graduation from our program.
