Sault Ste. Marie Campus Master Plan

Algoma University is undertaking a Master Plan study for the Sault Ste. Marie Campus that will focus on the physical growth and development over the 5-10 year horizon.

The University’s Special Mission cements Algoma’s role in promoting the truth and reconciliation at both a regional and national level, changes in education, new programs, and more. All of which requires to be managed, guided, and evaluated on a concerted and holistic manner.

Through a six month-long consultation process in 2019, we are inviting Algoma students, faculty and staff, and neighbouring partners to weigh in on important themes, including:

  • Overall vision for the site – carrying forward Shingwauk Vision
  • Student, faculty and staff campus experience
  • Physical growth
  • Accessibility 
  • Community inclusion
  • Sustainability – Campus resilience
  • Student housing
  • Updating and future-proofing existing facilities

The feedback gained through this process will help inform future planning, design and construction

Campus Master Plan Objectives

A campus master plan establishes a vision and framework to guide how and where the university campus will physically change in support of the university’s strategic vision and academic plan throughout all its available and future facilities. 

This includes an overarching Campus Vision, supported by Planning Principles to guide changes, along with a range of strategies for the planning and design of current and future buildings, public spaces, and transportation systems.

Project Team

Project Team – comprised of members of the Facilities Management and Development department together with David Ellis Architect, IBI Group, Two Row Architects, Normtech Engineering, STEM Engineering, and Trina Bolam as a historic advisor.


Algoma Leadership Team – ALT The executive group is comprised of senior leaders from both the academic and non-academic groups at Algoma U. The leadership group will make final decisions on proposed recommendations.
