Loan Policies
General (Circulating) Book Collection
- Books from the general circulating collection may be borrowed for a period appropriate to your user type (see Borrowing Privileges for more information).
Electronic Journals Collection
- The Electronic Journals Collection has been developed primarily to serve the needs of the faculty and students at Algoma U.
- Faculty members, staff and students at Algoma U may access electronic journals on campus or from anywhere connected to the world wide web.
- Access electronic journals on campus by clicking [here] ;
- Access electronic journals off campus by clicking [here] (requires authentication as a member of the Algoma U community).
- Due to copyright and site-licensing restrictions Electronic Journals are not available for off-campus use by non-Algoma U users.
- Non-Algoma U users may use the Electronic Journals at no charge from within the library.
Audio-Visual Equipment
- A selection of audio-visual equipment is available to support the needs of Algoma U faculty, staff and students.
- Faculty and staff members may book equipment by:
- booking in person at the Circulation Desk with library staff;
- booking over the phone with Circulation Desk staff at 705.949.2101, extension 4610.
- self-booking using the library's online booking system at: booking.algomau.ca/audio-visual (available only to Faculty and Staff; students must book using in person or over the telephone).
- Institutions partnering with Algoma U may borrow equipment on a case by case basis determined by the Library Director.
Reference Collection
- Items in the reference collection are identified by a black dot on the call number label of each volume.
- These books are non-circulating and must be used within the library.
Bibliographies
- Items in the bibliography collection are identified by a red dot on the call number label of each volume.
- All bibliographies are non-circulating and must be used within the library.
Rare Books
- Volumes are placed in the rare books collection because they are special or rare editions or because of their age and fragile condition.
- Items placed in the rare books storage area may be consulted upon request at the Circulation Desk and with the permission of the Library Director.
- Rare books do not circulate and must be used within the library.
Permanent Reserve Collection
- Items in the permanent reserve collection are identified by a yellow dot on the call number label of each volume.
- The permanent reserve collection is stored in the Circulation and Media Services Department behind the desk area.
- Permanent reserve items circulate for limited periods set by the Library Director. Most items are for use in the library only.
Careers Collection
- Items in the careers collection are identified by a green dot on the call number label of each volume.
- These books are non-circulating and must be used within the library.
Periodicals
- Periodicals are non-circulating, except under special circumstances.
- Faculty members may sign out periodicals for limited periods with the permission of the Library Services Supervisor or the Library Director.
Microforms
- Microfilms and microfiche are stored in cabinets located near the microform readers and reader/printers.
- Microforms are non-circulating and must be used within the library.
Government Publications
- Government publications are non-circulating, except under special circumstance.
- Faculty members may sign out publications for limited periods with the permission of the Library Services Supervisor or Library Director.
Computer Software
- Computer software is stored in the Circulation and Media Services Department and may be borrowed for limited periods.
- A university identification card with the appropriate validation stickers must be presented before signing out software. The identification card will be returned upon the return of the computer software in good order.
Slides
- Slides may be borrowed for limited periods at the discretion of the Library Director.
