Archives & Special Collections

What are Archives?

Archives are those records created, received and retained by individuals and organizations as evidence of their actions and transactions. As such they serve as their "documentary memory" and thus provide important information about the functions, activities, and decisions of record creators over time. Significant private archives at Algoma University include the Anglican Diocese of Algoma fonds, the  Clarence S. Dungey fonds, the Gladys H. McNeice fonds, and the John Ferris fonds.

What are Special Collections?

Special Collections are collections of materials, published and unpublished, brought together by individuals or organizations because of the materials' shared subject matter.  Collections of signficance include the St. Mary's River Marine Society Collection and the Shingwauk Collection.
