
The CESD Spring Institute Provides education and professional development in Community Economic and Social Development (CESD) with a special focus on small cities, towns, communities and First Nations.

Prepares for certification by the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO) and the Economic Developers’ Association of Canada (EDAC).

CESD 1006: Introduction to Community Economic and Social Development
The course provides an overview to the main CESD concepts, themes, principles and values. It examines the context in which community development has emerged, including the impact of mainstream economic and social development on communities and the environment and the emergence of alternative approaches.
CESD 3906: Special Topics - The Organization as Indigenous: A Sustainable ‘Edge’
There are thousands of Indigenous organizations in Canada – large and small, for profit, not-for-profit, governmental, and acting at international, national, regional, and local levels. This course explores their organization and management, and key factors that contribute to an ‘Indigenous’ organization – factors crucial in creating and building a more sustainable society.
$705.51 per 3 credit course for Canadian students, plus an application fee of $50.00 for new Algoma University students. On-campus accommodation available.
