The Group of Seven Train event takes place on September 25th. Unfortunately, tickets for the train ride from Sault Ste. Marie to Searchmont are sold out. However, interested participants may still register and take a bus to Searchmont and back to the Sault for a $45 ticket or provide their own transportation for a $35 ticket. Both of which includes a gourmet lunch, all activities and workshops. The event this year will feature the art of J.E.H. MacDonald, as it seeks to highlight the achievements of a different Group of Seven artist each year while simultaneously commemorating their impact as a group in this region of Canada.
In celebration of his life, work, and the art MacDonald created in the Algoma region as a member of the Group of Seven, his grand-niece Susan MacDonald will lead a conversation and discussion about her grand-uncle. Michael Burtch, former director of the Art Gallery of Algoma, will co-lead the discussion with MacDonald to recount the artwork, life and legacy of J.E.H MacDonald.
This year we are pleased to introduce new art workshops as part of the event. For the first time we have workshops available in both sketching by Joanie McGuffin and Anishinaabe Art by Shirley Horn. These new workshops will be in addition to past favourites including oil/acrylic by Taimi Poldmaa, watercolours by Linda Szabo and photography by Gary McGuffin. During the gourmet lunch we will have the pleasure of live musical entertainment provided by local area Shannon Moan Band.
The train leaves the Sault at 9:20am and is scheduled to arrive in Searchmont at about 10:30am. The return trip will be by bus, leaving Searchmont at 4pm.
Get your tickets soon! There is limited space available for the first day at Searchmont, while the second day Wawa Extension has completely sold out!
