There are all kinds of good reasons why you should live in residence at Algoma University. Here are a few of them:
The vacancy rate for rental units in Sault Ste. Mare is less than 1%. You can save yourself the aggravation and uncertainty of apartment-hunting in a tight market by applying for your room in residence as soon as you can.
The average student can save $100 a month by living in residence. Add up the all the costs of living off-campus (rent, utilities, cable, phone, internet, food) and it comes to a total of almost $8000 over nine months. At $3400 for a room in a townhouse (which includes phone) or $6080 for a dorm room (which includes phone and a meal plan), living in res is a bargain. Learn more about meal plan options at DineOnCampus.ca.

The residence at Algoma U provides a secure and safe living environment, 24 hours a day. With evening and overnight security staff, trained residence advisors, a secure-access dorm building and 24-hour video surveillance, you’ll never need to worry about your safety or security.
The average residence student achieves better grades – 8% higher than non-residence students. When your room is only seconds away from the Wishart Library, computer labs and faculty offices, all the resources you need to ensure your academic success are at your fingertips.
The average residence student has about two extra hours per day for studying, relaxing and socializing. When you live in residence, you won’t be spending your time commuting to class, or on household errands and tasks, like paying bills, grocery shopping and preparing meals.
If you like to work out, living on campus makes it easy. As an Algoma U student, you’ll have full access to the facilities at the George Leach Centre (GLC). And if you live in residence, the GLC is right next door!
Living in residence gives you the full student experience. You’ll have more opportunities to make friends and get involved in activities and events around the campus. Campus life is always great, but it’s even better when the campus is your home.
The Spirit Village Residence is centrally located on the Algoma University Campus, less than a minute walk to classes, computer labs, a fitness facility, and major transit routes.
New to the university is our Downtown Residence, which is only a 15 minute bus ride away from the main campus. This building was originally one of the first hotels in Sault Ste Marie and has recently been converted to house our residence students off campus.
