CFRE Designation

Individuals granted the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) credential have met a series of standards set by CFRE International which includes tenure in the profession, education, demonstrated fundraising achievement and commitment to service to not-for-profit organizations. They have agreed to uphold Accountability Standards and the Donor Bill of Rights.

Over 5,300 professionals around the world hold the CFRE designation.

To receive certification candidates must pass a rigorous written examination, testing the knowledge, skills and abilities required of a fundraising executive. CFRE recipients are awarded certification for a three-year period. In order to maintain certification status, certificants must continue to demonstrate on-going fundraising employment, fundraising results and continue with their professional education. The CFRE process was developed as a way to identify for the public and employers those individuals who possess the knowledge, skills and commitment to perform fundraising duties in an effective, conscientious, ethical and professional manner.

CFRE International is an independent organization whose sole mission is dedicated to the certification of fundraising executives by setting stands in philanthropy. CFRE International is governed by a board of directors made up of currently certified individuals from various types of fundraising settings and also includes members of the public representing the interests of donors.
