Through the programs in the Department of Modern Languages, you will develop speaking and writing skills, study the literature of the language, and gain an understanding of the culture as reflected in the spoken and written word.

Courses at the beginner level in French, Italian, Ojibwe and Spanish will make you comfortable in both written and oral expression, and advanced courses give you the opportunity to continue to develop your language proficiency.

Our literature courses in French, Italian and Spanish extend from the late Medieval and Renaissance periods to the present day. Small class sizes ensure that you will have lots of opportunities to participate and to benefit from individual attention from your professors.
