Agnes McCarthy is a voice instructor and choral conductor at the Algoma Conservatory of Music and Algoma University. She began her undergraduate studies in Voice in 1983 with Carolyn Hart at Memorial University of Newfoundland. After completing her Bachelor of Music degree in 1988, she moved to Montréal to pursue graduate studies in Early Music Performance at McGill University with the late Canadian countertenor, Allan Fast. Agnes completed her Masters Music degree in Voice Performance there in 1991.
In 1996, she founded the choral program at Algoma Conservatory, which currently numbers more than 100 students. Both her choirs and private students have distinguished themselves by winning numerous national awards.
Agnes is also active as a festival adjudicator and a member of the Board of Examiners for Conservatory Canada in London, Ontario. She is coordinator of the vocal division of the Sault Ste Marie Kiwanis Music Festival, and performs in solo and chamber concerts in Canada and the United States.
