Department of English, Fine Arts and Music

The Department of English, Fine Arts, and Music features highly qualified and talented faculty members united by an esprit de corps embodied in our passion for our disciplines and studies. The energy we invest in excelling as teachers is evident whenever we are with students in a seminar discussing literature, a rehearsal space practicing for a music performance, or a studio producing art objects. The dynamic environment we create with students encourages them to succeed in their studies and to thrive in their artistic productions. The faculty research and artistic production that informs our classes inspire our students explore their own ideas and talents.

Our department has created a space for projects by faculty and students that include the publication of Algoma Ink, poet's pub and jazz events, music performances, faculty and student art exhibitions, the Hayes Jenkinson lecture series, cultural field trips to Chicago, Montreal, and Stratford, and film festivals, among others. These events enrich the life of students and faculty in innumerable ways.

A great Scottish writer, Thomas Carlyle, conceived of learning as "thought kindling itself at the fire of living thought." Our students are illuminated and enriched by studying Art, English, and Music in our tightly-knit program. Kindle your own fire by joining us here.
