Minor in Political Science

The study of politics has always been at the centre of an education geared toward sustaining and improving community life. The ancient Chinese, Greeks and Romans regarded politics as one of the highest forms of human expression. Indigenous Peoples the world over have practiced unique and effective forms of politics for millennia.

As a Political Science student, you will gain an understanding of the history, values, structures and processes of political systems. You will also study the principles of effective democratic citizenship from local to international levels, along with the relationships between states and non-state actors in the wider, interdependent global system and how they organize themselves into various decision-making and administrative forums.

The Political Science program at Algoma University offers three- and four-year degrees in Political Science as a single major (single specialization) or double major (combined specializations) in combination with other subject areas (law & justice, Indigenous studies, history, sociology, psychology, English and others). A minor is also available and can be combined with any other majors. The program addresses a wide range of interests, from local and municipal politics to Indigenous and international politics.
