Department of Computer Science and Mathematics

Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers the following programs in Computer Science:

These programs provide students with a solid foundation of applied and theoretical knowledge in computer hardware/software systems concepts, expertise in several modern programming languages and an appreciation of the broad mathematical basis of computer science. Students might develop a career in the areas such as: Design and Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing, Computer Operations, Field Service, Careers in Technologies and areas related to Computer Science and Data Processing.

Computer Games Technology Specialization

The specialization in Computer Games Technology will permit the COSC student to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary for entering the professional game industry as a programmer/software engineer. This degree will also qualify students for admissions into the MSc in Computer Games Technology offered at Algoma University through the University of Abertay Dundee in the U.K. This specialization also provides a solid foundation for admission to traditional graduate school programs in Computer Science.

It is beneficial to continue on to graduate studies at Algoma University after completion of the Bachelor of Computer Science in Computer Games Technology. There is high demand for talented programmers, and throughout the master's degree you will work on a number of projects, in groups and individually, and will develop a portfolio to showcase to the industry. Also, Games Programmers with a master's degree earn on average a much higher salary than their peers. For more information on the MSc Computer Games Technology program, click here.

It is recommended that secondary school students include Calculus and one other Mathematics in their OAC/U level program. Students without OAC/U level Calculus are required to take an upgrading course before enrolling in the required first year Calculus course.
